Health care professionals recommend drinking lots of fruit and vegetables, avoiding processed foods and taking a healthy diet.

The advice comes as more Canadians are opting to drink less water as a result of a water crisis and rising costs.

The recommendations are based on studies that suggest fruit and vegetable consumption is good for health.

In recent years, fruit and veg consumption has increased in Canada and in many parts of the world, including in North America, where it has been the healthiest dietary option for decades.

The Canadian Pest Management Agency said this summer that the fruit and veggies consumption in the country increased by about 14 per cent between the year 2000 and 2014.

Some experts believe fruit and greens are particularly healthy because they’re low in calories and contain vitamin C and other antioxidants, as well as vitamin K.

The fruit and leaf diet, which is typically recommended for people in the U.S. and elsewhere, includes fruit, vegetables, nuts, beans, legumes and whole grains, and has been shown to help reduce the risk of cardiovascular disease, cancer and stroke.

But some experts say the diet can be too restrictive, and many Canadians are taking it for granted.

“A lot of Canadians have taken this as something that they’re supposed to do and they’re doing it,” said Dr. Julie Gagnon, a medical doctor at the University of British Columbia.

Gagnon said it’s important to understand that the diet has been around for many years and that it can be adapted to the unique lifestyles of Canadians.

“We have to be very careful because it’s a diet that’s been around a long time and people can adapt it to their own lifestyle,” she said.

The recommendation to avoid processed foods is based on research that shows a reduction in saturated fat and cholesterol is associated with lower rates of death from cancer and heart disease.

“That’s the one thing that is absolutely clear, when you go to the grocery store and you see the foods that are being served, that those are processed foods,” said Gagnons co-author, Dr. Sarah Schulze.

Schulze and her colleagues found that people who ate a diet high in fruit, whole grains and vegetables had a lower risk of death.

That means if a food has less saturated fat, there is a greater risk of heart disease and cancer.

They also found that fruits, nuts and vegetables are associated with a lower rate of heart attacks and strokes, but people who eat a high-carbohydrate diet had a higher risk.

Gaffney and her co-authors said there is no definitive evidence that a diet low in fruit and/or vegetables is associated a higher mortality rate.

But the evidence is clear, they said.

Scholarly studies have also shown that eating a high fruit and plant-based diet can help lower blood pressure and reduce the risks of type 2 diabetes.

But Gagnos research team says it’s possible to do more research and see if the benefits of fruit can translate to people who have diabetes.
