Michael Phelps, who has not been able to participate in his first-ever competitive swimming event in Rio de Janeiro, said on Monday that he had no idea if he would be able as he recovers from surgery for a blood clot that has kept him out of the swimming pool.

The 38-year-old Phelps, a former Olympic gold medallist, is now in a medically induced coma after the accident which left him unconscious.

But he told ABC’s This Week that he was not 100 per cent sure if he could compete.
